I’ve never been called a “nasty woman” but I have experienced negative comments directed my way. I think that any woman who has strong convictions and is willing to speak will be on the receiving end of criticism. Comments I’ve heard over the years include: you’re pushy, you’re mean, you’re rude, people are afraid of you. Sometimes these hurt…immensely.
I’ve learned through faith that humility and care in speaking are important, but they are not more important than speaking about and standing up for what is right. So I appreciate the t-shirt given to me by some church members. I’ll wear it at my next protest…because standing up for what is right is more important than any negative words people can throw my way.
Today I’m personally thankful for: the voice I have as a woman; awesome church members who encourage me to use that voice; and for the love of God that transcends everything.
